Visual Literacy is the ability to understand and interpret visual images and the ability to convey those meanings to others. It is communicating and sharing! Hmmmm, sounds like 21st Century learning!

Maria Avgerinou states that VL is the ability to understand (read), and to use (write) images, as well as to think and learn in terms of images.
Rune Petterson's definition of VL is the learned ability to interpret visual messages accurately and to create such messages.
In VL, interpretation and creation can be said to parallel reading and writing in print literacy.
